Doug has asked me to put these pics up for you all as he is busy with family this weekend. I am told that there is a "NEW ADDITION" as well .. SO watch this space for more on that....

Wee bit early - sorry but got to get over big nite on the pi**..

So here goes.

Below some pics of the Bore Sight Range in Charters Towers (on the weir road and not far from the airport) that was used by the American's during WW2..to set up the convergence angle of the gun and the pilots site in various aircraft or the time.

For those who don't know what a "bore site" is ...

A bore site is a telescope that fits into the barrel of a gun and is used to site a target (thru the barrel) on the bullseye as shown in the pics.

Once the barrel is set up the pilot's site is set to point at the same bullseye. The problem is that they had to get within about 400 yds of the target to guarantee a hit. The convergence was usually set at 350 yds which I am told was an optimum distance to have a certain hit at the speeds those planes were flying at..

It might be said young Jim that where these things are concerned you are still riding your own tricycle!

Why in the laundry young James, sitting there in the old wire soap holder hung over the side of the concrete tubs!

You've got me there, I don't remember it well!

I can picture it on television in black and white and vaguely remember people needing solvol but that's about it.

Ok, you win you're the oldest!

Jim you've just given me some terrible memories!

Now you mention it she's come flooding back to me!

That little pest goes into the same basket as the Wiggles with their "Wake up Geoff"

I've got 3 nephews and a niece ranging in age from 4 to 9 so a snooze on Christmas day becomes basically impossible!
